Abstract

526,668. Cellular sheet materials. ALFOL INSULATION, Ltd., and SYKES, J. March 24, 1939, No. 9342. [Classes 96 and 140] [Also in Groups XIII and XXII] Heat-reflecting sheets, e.g., of metal foil, which are used to define air layers for heat insulation, are formed with creased folds c and with a crease at g midway between the folds c. Ribs d are thus formed, and their further spreading is prevented by strips e stapled at f to the sheet a. The creases enable the sheet to be folded into a flat pack, as in Fig. 2, for transport, or the ribs d may be folded against the sheet a, as in Fig. 12, so that the sheet may be rolled. In alternative forms the ribs may be formed in the strips e, the strips e may be interrupted between ribs, the strips e may be provided on both sides of the sheet, the strips e may be replaced by another sheet of heat-reflecting material, the strips e may be omitted and the walls of the ribs stapled together, and an additional sheet of material may be laid over the top and stapled to the ribs. The sheet a may be of aluminium foil, paper, cardboard, asbestos, textile cloth. synthetic resin paper or cellulose, or cellulose derivative containing particles of metal or metallic lustre. Metal foil coating, or metallizing, may be applied to the sheet, and the metallic surface may be protected by lacquer or anodic oxidation. The strips may be replaced by wire, string, card, or tape, and the stapling may be replaced by the use of adhesive, welding, interlocked indentations, or by knurled wheels. The crests of the ribs may be provided with projections.
