526,603. Road signals for controlling traffic. CLARKE, C., and SHAW, W. R. March 22, 1939, No. 9023. [Class 118 (ii)] A device for signalling to an oncoming vehicle comprises a semaphore arm 9 pivoted in a casing 2 which is attached to a standard or post 6 at the road side. A rod 15 is provided which can be pulled to raise the arm 9 into an horizontal position. The arm is provided on one side with a word, such as "stop," outlined in a lightreflecting material, preferably a series of lightreflecting studs 10. The arm falls back into the casing when the rod 15 is released.
