Abstract

526,354. Disc brakes. SOC. DE MECANIQUE GENERALE. March 14, 1939, No. 8150. Convention date, March 18, 1938. [Class 103 (i)] A wheel for vehicles and aircraft having at one side a detachable rim 6a to permit removal of the tyre is provided at the other side with a disc brake disposed in a casing comprising the wall lb of the wheel and an outer disc 9 with lugs 10 bolted to the wheel at 11. An annular axially movable friction disc 12 is notched at its periphery to receive the lugs 10 and thus rotates with the wheel. A pair of discs 21, 22 slidable one within the other enclose an expansible chamber 24 having a pipe connection 25 for pressure fluid. These discs and a further disc 28 are slidably mounted on anchor pins 30 extending through a collar 31 secured to the fixed axle 3. The several discs and the wall 1b have steel facings riveted to them. When pressure fluid is supplied to the chamber 24 the discs 22, 12, 28 are forced against one another and the disc 9 and the disc 21 is pressed against the wall lb. The discs 9, 12 have cooling ribs 19, 20 respectively.
