Abstract
526,041. Road-vehicle bodies. METROPOLITAN-CAMMELL CARRIAGE & WAGON CO., Ltd., and BRUNTON, P. D. March 7, 1939, No. 7338. [Class 108 (i)] A double deck vehicle body has the intermediate floor m, n, Fig. 9, joined to the side walls a by a longitudinal hollow girder member built up of curved covings f. h, projecting inwardly from the wall sheeting b above and below the floor and united on their inward extremities by a light longitudinal member g preferably of Z section with an upright web to which the floor is connected. In the hollow girder member formed by their covings f, h, Fig. 1, and connecting member g are vertical stiffening brackets i inserted at each wall pillar c. These brackets are preferably steel pressings with flanges j and k. Two of these pressings are placed back to back and riveted or welded together. Instead of the covings being integral' with the wall sheeting they may be made additional thereto. The intermediate flooring may be carried by bearers m preferably Z members. In the case of the lower floor, Fig. 2, coving f is treated as before, but is secured to a continuous member p riveted at intervals to members q connected to floor bearers. The roof, Fig. 9, is carried by carlines e with legs x which enter the tops of the wall pillars c.
