Abstract
342,461. Vehicle bodies; airship cabins. UNION CONSTRUCTION & FINANCE CO., Ltd., 55, Broadway, Westminster, DOWLING, H. T., 31, Cole Park Road, Twickenham, ADAMS, A. E., 37, Heathdale Avenue, Hounslow, both in Middlesex, and BASTOCK, S. J., 34, Hamilton Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. Dec. 16, 1929, Nos. 38524/29 and 27691/30. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i).] In double-decked vehicles including airship cabins the framework is entirely of metal and is built up integrally with the main longitudinal base members of the chassis and comprises a number of uprights spaced apart along the chassis members and continuing up to the roof of the upper deck, cant rails attached to the upper ends of the uprights, intermediate longitudinals and transverse roof members joining the upper ends of the uprights. As shown, the uprights 12 are secured integrally with the chassis members or sole bars 10 and transverse roof members 14 and cant rails 13 are provided. Longitudinals 17 to support the upper floor and intermediate longitudinals 27, 28 are provided defining rectangles which are covered by the outer skin 32, Fig. 3, cross bracing members 29, as described in Specification 338,037, [Class 103 (v), Railway &c. vehicles, Draught &c. appliances for], being provided in the lower rectangles. The end platforms are formed by U-shaped bars 11 which are secured to the members 10 and additionally supported by uprights 21, 25 canopies 18 also being provided. Doors ar provided at each end or at the middle as desired. The panelling 32 is secured by moulding strips 42, Fig. 5, of metal or moulded resinous products in which are secured bolts to fasten the panelling to the pillars 12, screws 41 also being provided to secure the panels to packing pieces 40.
