Abstract
525,049. Television. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CLAYTON, R. J., and EDWARDS, G. W. Feb. 13, 1939, No. 4672. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Disturbance between the line and frame time bases due to capacity coupling between the electrodes of a valve generating saw-tooth oscillations is compensated for by connecting the control grid to some other point in such a way that a voltage is applied to the control grid equal and opposite to the disturbing voltage. In the arrangement shown line-frequency saw-tooth oscillations are generated by means of a tetrode valve 1, of which the anode 3 is connected through the primary winding 6 of a transformer and a variable resistance 7 to the positive H.T. supply. A tapping on the secondary winding 8 of the transformer is connected in series with the biassing circuit 9 to the cathode 2, one end of the winding 8 being connected to the grid 5. The output circuit 10 is connected across part of the secondary winding 8. The control grid 4 is connected to the cathode 2 by a grid leak 11 and by a lead 12 to the common source of synchronizing signals. To prevent oscillations from reaching the lead 12 through the capacity 13 between the grids 5, 4, a condenser 15 is connected between the control grid 4 and the end of the secondary winding 8 remote from the grid 5. By varying the portion of the secondary winding 8 included in series with the compensating condenser 15, the magnitude and phase of the voltage applied to the grid 4 may be adjusted. In a modification the cathode 2 is connected through the biassing circuit 9 to the upper end of the secondary winding 8, and the compensating condenser 15 is connected directly between the control grid 4 and anode 3. In another arrangement the saw-tooth oscillations generated in the valve 1 are applied to an amplifier and the compensating condenser is connected between the control grid 4 and a point in the anode circuit of the amplifier. Specification 494,677 is referred to.
