524,660. Lubricating pistons &c. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNET MARELLI. Feb. 3, 1939, No. 3686. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1938. [Class 122 (il] The lubrication of a piston or like sliding member is effected by a ring 7 of porous material, such as felt, carried in a peripheral recess 6 formed at one end of a piston 1. The ring 7 absorbs lubricant contained in a chamber 8 formed between an end face of the piston and a disc 10 fixed in front of the face and directly limited by the porous ring 7 at the periphery. In Figs. 1 and 2 the projections 1<1> separated by spaces 9, support the felt ring and against these projections the disc 10 bears. Some or all of the projections 1 may be formed on the .disc 10. The disc, which has a central flange 10<1>, is pressed against the piston by any suitable means such as the return spring 11. Fig. 3 shows a piston valve in which the piston 1 is recessed at 61 to receive the felt ring 7. The disc 10 has an annular projection 1011 to retain the ring 7 in position and is itself secured by the collar 13 screwed on to the body 12 of the valve. The porous ring is preferably fitted to the end of the piston which is subjected to the lowest pressure during the working stroke.
