Abstract

524,472. Cycle brakes. HERCULES CYCLE & MOTOR CO., Ltd., and CRANE, E. F. Jan. 31, 1939, No. 3216. [Class 136 (i)] In a cycle brake of the type in which the shoes are mounted on cranked levers. actuated by a resilient stirrup, each of the levers is of bell-crank form with one limb substantially parallel to and the other substantially at right angles to the fork blade, and the first limb carries the brake shoe and is pivotally connected at its free end to the stirrup, and the free end of the other limb is pivotally connected to the wheel fork or a part mounted thereon. The brake shoes a are secured by nuts b to lugs c projecting from cranked levers d, which are pivoted at e to clips f on the fork blades g, or to lugs or brackets on the fork blades. The upper ends of the levers d are pivoted by studs k in slotted eyes j on the lower ends of a resilient stirrup h, which is connected at n to a pull-rod l, its resilience being augmented by a bowed spring strip m also secured at n and bearing at its free ends against the inner surfaces of the stirrup h.
