Abstract

524,016. Heat-treatment furnaces. ORAM, J. E., and WILD - BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37308. [Class 51 (ii)] In a heat-treatment furnace, of the type in which the furnace atmosphere is circulated in a closed circuit within the furnace by a fan, one or more charging o r discharging passages in the furnace wall extend into the treatment chamber transversely to the line of travel of work conveying means therein. In the vertical furnace shown air is circulated by a fan 11 round a partition 3 in the furnace chamber and perforated work supporting trays 25 are conveyed into and from the furnace through openings 21, 22 leading on to and from respectively angle irons 20 carried on opposite pairs of elevator chains 17. Electric resistances 6 heat the air, which may be circulated in either direction. Automatic means may be provided to stop trays opposite the unloading opening and means e.g., pushers, to load and unload them.
