Abstract

523,778. Machines for making lace or net. BYARD MANUFACTURING 'CO., Ltd., and HUNTER, A. E. Dec. 15, 1938, No. 36562. [Class 74 (i)] Hair nets or the like made in a number of breadths are wound upon a collapsable skeleton reel or skein winder 18 during manufacture so as to permit their ready removal from the reel or winder when a required length has been made. The reel or winder is readily removable from the machine and driven through a readilyseparable coupling 29, 32. A number of reels may be arranged coaxially and may be driven by a dog - coupling 34a, 34b which allows ready separation of the reels. The reels may comprise a number of axially extending rods 26, one 26<SP>1</SP> of which is mounted upon an arm 27<SP>1</SP> so that it can be displaced to reduce the size of the reel. The nets may have elastic threaded under tension along each edge and may be wound upon the reel in a somewhat relaxed condition. The nets may pass over the. usual porcupine roller 11 and thence over a second roller 15 rotating at a higher speed than the roller 11. The reel may be driven by a ratchetwheel 25a and clawker 19, the clawker being mounted upon a slotted arm 20 which permits variation of the position of a connecting rod 21 and so allows the throw of the clawker to be adjusted.
