Abstract

523,701. Cycle gear cases. MARCHANT, W. D., and MOTOSACOCHE SOC. ANON. Jan. 12, 1939, No. 1133. [Class 136 (i)] In a gear case for motor and other cycles, of the type comprising front and rear portions enclosing the driving and driven sprockets respectively and having apertures for the passage of the chain, and separate tubular connecting members extending between the apertures for enclosing the intermediate parts of the chain in a manner permitting adjustment of the lengths of the connecting members to provide for chain adjustment, the rear portion is split in a vertical plane passing through the axis of the driven sprocket, to provide a removable part permitting withdrawal of the driven sprocket and the rear wheel. A front casing 1 enclosing the driving sprocket is provided with a cover plate 1a and divergent hollow arms 1c, 1d, which are connected by tubes 5, 6 to hollow, arms 4c, 4d on a rear casing 4 enclosing the driven sprocket, the tubular parts being adjustably connected together by rubber or like flexible sleeves 7. The rear casing 4 is divided in a vertical plane passing through the axis of the driven sprocket, the rear part 4e being removable and held in place by means of a semi-circular strap 4f and a tightening-device 4g.
