523,399. Variable-pitch screw propellers. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., BUTLER, L. F. G., and CORDINER, W. Dec. 2, 1938, No. 35208. [Class 114] A joint in a conduit which conveys fluid between relatively rotating parts, e.g., conveys fluid between passages 23, or 24 in a casing enclosing the driving gear of an aircraft propeller, and the hollow propeller shaft 10, which fluid operates means for varying the propeller pitch, comprises telescopic sleeves 60, 61 with spherical ends pressed apart by a spring and seated in spherical sockets one of which comminicates with the passage 24 or 23 and the other with a grooved sleeve 48 surrounding but not rotating with the shaft, the groove communicating with ports 51 and grooves 43 in a bush fixed on the shaft and so with a radial port 40 or 41 in the shaft. The ports 40, 41 are set longitudinally apart, each communicating with one of the two telescopic joints provided ; fluid may enter by one port and return by the other.
