Abstract

523,264. Cellular plaster. CAVADINO, C. G. F., and GYPROC PRODUCTS, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1938. No. 37780. [Class 70] Cementitious composition articles such as plaster boards are aerated by gas produced by the reaction of potassium permanganate with barium peroxide, hydrogen peroxide or alkali peroxides in the presence of acetic acid, with or without hydrochloric or nitric acid, or both. Chromic anhydride or potassium dichromate may replace the permanganate ; when barium peroxide is used in this case, hydrochloric or nitric acid or both must be present. The' reagents may be made into two solutions, one of which contains the acid and peroxide, and the other, permanganate, dichromate, or chromic anhydride and these solutions are added simultaneously or consecutively to the slurry with stirring. Suitable proportions for aerating 6800 lbs. of plaster of Paris, are (a) water 35 gals., hydrochloric acid 1 gal., acetic acid 2.7 pints, barium peroxide 5 lbs., (b) water 15 gals. chromic anhydride 34 oz. Numerous other examples are given.
