Abstract
523,245. Radiators for aircraft. WORCESTER WINDSHIELDS & CASEMENTS, Ltd., and SOUTHALL, H. June 22, 1939, No. 18164. [Class 64 (iii)] A radiator for aircraft engines comprises several self - contained cylindrical radiator elements 1 of drum form arranged closely side by side in the same plane and rigidly connected in series with their axes parallel to form a single unit by sleeves 2 on flanges 3 on adjacent walls of the elements, and is carried in the wing or fuselage of an aircraft. Water or other liquid enters the radiator at 4 and leaves at 5, passing around and then through tubes 7 packed between two arc-shaped tube supports 6 with flat surfaces 6a in each element, which is circular or oval and has a drain plug 8 and a vent valve 9. The bearers in the wing may be parallel with the front edge of the wing and may have concave seats with metal straps passing round the elements.
