[Class 74 (ii)] Relates to means for supporting the two components of a rib machine suchwise as to be adapted for adjustment one or each in relation to the other transversely to the longitudinal axis. The invention is described as applied to the double axially opposed needle cylinder type, equipped with double-ended needles 3 and sliders 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. The upper component comprises the top cylinder 2, cam box 6 and a superstructure 7 for tiers of bobbins 8 for wrap striping, reverse plating or embroidery effects. This component is carried by a top plate 10 which can be slidably adjusted on an annular support 11, bolted to uprights 12. For this purpose a number of brackets 22, each with a radial boss 23 are bolted at 24 to the support 11 and carry adjusting screws 26 which bear on the periphery 10a of the plate 10. After adjustment, the plate 10 and support 11 are bolted together at 27. The cam box 6 is suspended from the plate 10 by hanger brackets 37. The wrap guides 9 are accommodated in a tricked cylinder 30 mounted on a flanged sleeve 31 screwed at 35 to a recessed part 10b of the plate 10. The wrap thread bobbins 8 are placed on spindles 54 carried by supports 55 on arms 56 radiating from bosses 57 carried by a vertical rod 50. A member 52 bolted at 75 to a driving gear 77 supports the bobbin-carrying structure 7. The wrap threads pass through holes in members 57, 52, 60 and 61 to the lower ends of the guides 9. The lower needle cylinder 1 is driven by the main shaft and drives a vertical shaft 70 which carries gear 69, 74 and 78 for driving the upper cylinder 2, the cylinder 30 for wrap thread guides 9 and the bobbin carrier 7 synchronously. To facilitate removal of the guides 9 when necessary, ports such as 85. 89 and 90 are provided in the plate 10 and gears 77 and 73 and the cylinder 30 is bevelled at 86 to engage with shoulders 87 on the guides. The cylinder 2 is provided with a set of vertically movable sinkers 126 which act as combined knocking-over and holding-down bits, and have radial extensions 129 to hold down fabric when loops are being drawn by rib needles. A cam ring 99 with concentric annular grooves for reception of control cams is mounted on the plate 10 and is stepped round by a pawl on a rocking shaft housed in one of the channelled uprights 12. To resist or counteract torsional stresses anti-torque rods are mounted between the top cam box and the uprights 12. Specifications 15008/00.
