522,536. Devices for assisting respiration. McNAB, N. S. Dec. 14, 1938, No. 36412. [Class 81 (ii)] An appliance for promoting respiration comprises a bed or stretcher having mounted on its frame a hood 21 which encloses a patient up to the neck in an air-tight manner, means, such as a bellows 34, being provided to cause internal variations of pressure within the hood and wherein a seal between the hood and carrier is effected by means of elastic material 14, Fig. 2, or 33, Fig. 4, which bridges a channel in the supporting frame or in the hood and makes a seal when the hood is placed in position. The seal about the patient's neck is effected by flaps of fabric co-operating with the opening in the hood. The bellows may be actuated manually or by a motor.
