Abstract

522,403. Moulding pulp. TRIGGS, W. W. (Keyes Fibre Co.). Dec. 8, 1938, No. 35799. [Class 87 (ii)] A moulded pulp article such as a plate, dish, or cup is formed from pre-shaped layers 1, 2 of pulp, one whereof comprises gelatinized cellulose to form a layer impervious to grease or moisture, the superimposed layers being united under heat and pressure between dies 4, 5. The layers may be formed successively on one foraminous die, or independently on separate dies. The dies 4, 5 are provided with heating' chambers 8, 19 and may be pressed by toggles 6. The die 5 is provided with a layer of perforated material 13 through which and holes 14 water is drawn off into a chamber 16 and exhausted through a pipe 18. The gelatinous layer may contain sufficient fibre to enable it to be pre-shaped on a foraminous die.
