Abstract

698,649. Moulding pulp. KEYES FIBRE CO. Oct. 3, 1951, No. 23013/51. Class 87 (ii) An open-face pulp-moulding die for making egg holders &c. having a suction chamber 45, comprises a die plate 2 and a die ring 6 defining the moulding area, the die plate having draining holes 14 and a number of grooves 18 which divide the die into sub-areas 22. Each sub-area is covered by a wire-mesh hood 32 having flanges 38 which extend into the grooves 18 and are held frictionally within these grooves which may have locking strips 46 for this purpose. The hoods 32 adjacent the die ring 6 may have flanges 36, Fig. 4, which are secured by the die ring 6. Alternatively, these flanges may extend into a groove (not shown) similar to the grooves 18, running around the periphery of the moulding .area. The grooves 18 may extend as far as the edge of the die ring 6 or may extend a short distance underneath the die ring.
