Abstract
522,312. Coal &c. cutting machines. C.-W. ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and SEED, E. C. Dec. 7, 1938, No. 35702. [Class 68 (i)] In a coal-cutting or like machine of the cutterchain type, cuttings are removed by a'helical conveyer rotatable in a tube that slants upwardly from near floor level away from the body of the machine in a plane that contains, or is substantially parallel with, the central longitudinal axis . of the machine body. A frame 30, including a tube 28, is detachably secuted to the machine. body 10 by a pivot pin 80 and swinging bolts 82. A guide plate 34 and a baffle 44 are reversibly bolted to the tube 28, the guide plate being secured to the body 10 by a pin 36 and, if desired, having apertures for passage of some of the cuttings. A worm conveyer 46 is driven from the driving gear 20 of the cutter chain through gear 72, shafts 62, 60 connected by a spring- loaded overload slipping clutch 74, 76 and gears 58, 56. In another form, the conveyer is driven. from the lower side of The gear 20 through additional gears. The cuttings may be discharged from the tube 28 through an opening 54, or through a lateral opening from which a flexible or hinged tube leads to a face conveyer. Reversing gear may be incorporated in the drive of the conveyer worm, or a right or left hand worm is used according to the direction of rotation of the cutter chain.
