Abstract
522.201. Knitting machines. BEN T LEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and LACK, J. Nov. 8, 1938, No. 32433. [Class 74 (ii)] The presser head A' of a " Cotton's," rotary &c. machine is furnished with a longitudinal groove in which one or more notched pressers A are movably mounted so as to be brought into or out of operative position on the instep needles, which can thus be left unpressed as long as required while the heel needles continue to be pressed. In one form, each presser A is notched. at the same spacing as the needles and is movable to the extent of half. the needle pitch by means of a bracket B carrying a dawson .wheel B', which provides the coarse setting. A slidable presser control bar C is held by a spring C<SP>1</SP> against the notched edge of the wheel B<SP>1</SP>. The individual pressers A for each section are connected by springs A' to spring hooks C<SP>2</SP> on the bar C. Each presser A carries a lug A<SP>6</SP> which moves between screw stops A<SP>7</SP>, A<SP>8</SP>, which provide the fine setting. A spring A<SP>11</SP> normally holds the lug A<SP>6</SP> against the stop A<SP>7</SP>. In another form, the heels are pressed by fixed pressing edges of the presser head, and the gap between, on which the instep section is to be made is filled by a sliding presser bar having on the longitudinal edge alternate raised and depressed parts connected by inclines. Another bar with a similar edge works in the same groove as the pressed bar to advance or retire it the necessary 'amount to press the instep needles or leave them unpressed.
