Abstract
521,591. Step-by-step printing telegraph apparatus. CREED & CO., Ltd., THOMPSON, A. E., and SALMON, R. D. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28478. [Class 40 (iii)] A combined transmitting and receiving step-by-step printing telegraph apparatus comprises a shaft 50 common to both transmitting and receiving apparatus and driven from a hand wheel or other common source of power through a spring 22, and separate clutches, 12, 23 and 54, 24 so interconnected with a send-receive switch 18, 19, 20 that the transmitting apparatus may be driven through one clutch while the receiving apparatus is declutched and disconnected and vice versa. The clutches are coupled together by a link 14, and to the switch by lever 21 ; and these parts are set to receive or send by a handle 1. The keyboard of the transmitter shown is provided as claimed in Specification 522,095 with a slotted wheel 80<SP>1</SP> co-operating with a lever 82 engaged by pins 85 on a link 9 of the mechanism.controlling the send-receive switch and the clutches, so that the send-receive switch cannot be moved from "send" to "receive" unless the keyboard is given a definite position by the depression of a specific key thereof. In that position, the keyboard lever 82 can enter a slot 81 in the wheel 80<SP>1</SP> thus permitting the operation of the handle 1 to put the receiver in operation ; and so long as the receiver is in operation. the transmitter keyboard is locked. Specifications 284,740, [Class 40 (iii)], 380,126, 490,361, 490,404, 503,384, and 503,521, [Group XXIV], also are referred to.
