Abstract
521,492. Photographic diazotype processes. HARDING, Ltd., S. C. & P., and LEUCH, W. P. Sept. 20, 1938, No. 27398. [Class 98 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] Diazo compounds derived from amines of the general formula where X is an isopropyl radical or a radical containing four or more carbon atoms and Y is an aliphatic acyl group, are used in the diazotype process. Y is preferably an acetyl group. X may also be a n-butyl group. Paper may be coated with an aqueous solution of the zinc chloride double salt of the diazo compound from 4- amino - 1 - acetylamino - hydroquinone - dibutyl ether, tartaric acid, and aluminium sulphate, and after exposure developed with an aqueous solution of phloroglucinol, resorcinol, tartaric acid, sodium tartrate, sodium formate, and sodium benzoate. Amines of the above general formula are prepared from the appropriate hydroquinone ether by nitrating, reducing and acetylating, and either nitrating and reducing or coupling with a diazo compound such as diazotised sulphanilic acid and splitting the dyestuff obtained. The amines may be diazotised and the diazo compounds precipitated with zinc chloride and sodium chloride. Specifications 347,430 and 425,235 are referred to.
