Abstract
521,196. Yarns &c. BRANDWOOD, J. Oct. 24, 1938, No. 30636. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group IV] Yarns of soft and lustrous character are obtained by treating textile rovings or slubbings with weak solutions of substances having cohesive properties so as to impart increased frictional resistance to separation without fixed cohesion of the component fibres when dried, clearing excess solution as far as possible from the fibres, and then drying. The strength of the solution used is such that while it gives increased frictional resistance to separation of the fibres sufficient to enable the yarn so obtained to withstand winding and weaving tension, there is no perceptible film or coating upon the fibres, which are in physical contact. Solutions or dispersions of rubber latex, cellulose derivatives, gellatose, a soluble starch, or gums, may be used. The strength of the solution may be 0À5-1 per cent. The cohesive material may be incorporated in a dye bath or a subsequent, washing bath, or the treatment may be carried out separately. The solution may be passed through the roving by differential pressure and clearance of excess of solution may be effected by compressed air. Specification 482,817 is referred to.
