Abstract

521,086. Controlling exposures in photographic and kinematographic cameras. KODAK, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37274. Convention date, Dec. 22, 1937. [Class 98 (ii)] In a photographic camera provided with a photo-electric exposure meter, the photo-electric cell consists of two or more separate lightsensitive elements one or more of which may be selectively inserted in the exposure meter circuit by switch means under the control of one of the exposure controlling devices of the camera. As shown, the kinematograph camera 10 includes a photo-electric exposure meter, the coil 13 of which is in circuit with one element 14 of the photo-electric cell, which has additional elements 15 and 16 selectively connected in parallel with the element 14 by a switch 19 comprising bars 20, 21 and 22 biassed into contact by the spring 23. The diaphragm of the objective 11 is controlled by the position of the meter pointer 12. The camera 10 has a control knob 24 bearing a scale 25 co-operating with a mark 26 to indicate the setting of the shutter-speed mechanism. The knob 24 is on a shaft 27 carrying the speed controlling member and also a cam 28 adapted to control the switch 19 by a lever 29 with one end engaging the cam 28 and the other the bar 20. When the camera is set for a high speed the cam 28 is in a position to hold all three bars 20, 21 and 22 out of engagement and only the light-sensitive element 14 is in circuit with the coil 13. If the speed is decreased, the lever 29 rotates to permit first the bar 21 and then the bar 22, and correspondingly the lightsensitive elements 15 and 16 to be brought into circuit. The elements 14 and 15 are of equal size and the element 16 is of double size. An embossing on the film magazine may control a bell-crank lever moving a grid positioned immediately behind lenses spaced in front of the light - sensitive elements. Specifications 451,659 and 521,083 are referred to.
