Abstract

530,429. Photo-electric control or indication of photographic exposure. KODAK, Ltd. July 14, 1939, No. 20521. Convention date, July 14, 1938. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] A photographic camera includes a lever which projects under spring action from the camera body through the lens opening and controls the output of a light-sensitive device, the lever being moved in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of the interchangeable lens mount by a sleeve carried by the mount and operated by the diaphragm-setting member. In the construction shown, the rotary contact arm 18 of an adjustable resistance in the circuit of a photo-electric cell 12 is operated through a rack and pinion by a spring-pressed lever 20 having an arm 24 which projects into the mount of the objective and contacts with the rear end of a sleeve 60 rotatably and longitudinally adjustable in the mount. The sleeve is rotated by a tongue 63 secured to the diaphragmadjusting ring 51 and projecting into a slot 62 in the front end of the sleeve, and a pin 46 engaging a cam slot 64 produces a corresponding longitudinal movement of the sleeve which operates the lever 20 to adjust the resistance. The sleeve 60 for adjusting the resistance in the photo-electric cell circuit is mounted in the focusing sleeve 36 and the pin 46 which engages the cam slot 64 in it is fixed to an offset ring 32 screwed on the end of the stationary ring 29. The pin 46 passes through a slot in the sleeve 36, which it thus limits to axial movements. In a modification, the sleeve 60 has rotational movement only, its rear edge being 'formed with a cam surface engaged by a lever operating an adjustable baffle which regulates the light passing to the cell, as described in Specification 521,083, [Group XX]. The meter may serve to indicate the correct adjustment of the shutter speed, or to adjust the speed automatically, as described in Specification 520,955, [Group XX].
