Abstract

521,043. Yarns. BELL, A. S., and ANGUS, W. C. Nov. 9, 1938, No. 32504. [Class 120 (iii)] A composite yarn has a predominating component of one or more voluminous crimped yarns 2 of continuous filament origin doubled by a substantial doubling twist with a base thread 1, and a binding thread 4 is doubled about the assembly. The length of the yarns 2 is substantially greater than that of the thread 1 so that flakes 3 are produced and secured by the thread 4. The yarns 2 constitute more than 70 per cent of the weight of the composite yarn, and the base thread 1 may be a low twist continuous filament of cellulose acetate. The binding thread 4 may be a high twist crepe thread. Fabrics produced by these yarns have a compact interlacing between series of long floats; the composite yarns can be used in warp or weft or both and they produce an astrakhan or similar fur - likeappearance.
