Abstract

519,558. Automatic gain control systems. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. April 11, 1939, No. 11006. Convention date, April 23, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] A television or other multiple-component broadcasting system is characterized by the feature that a number of differant transmitters 10, 11, 12 each radiate signals on individual carriers having a predetermined unmodulated amplitude relation, say between the sound and vision carriers, which is the same for all stations, the gain of both channels being automatically controlled by voltages derived from one (e.g., the sound channel). In this way the automatic control at the receiver remains equally efficient no matter to which transmitter the receiver may be tuned. At the receiver 13, control voltages derived from the signal detector 18 of the sound channel are applied to control the radio frequency 15 and frequency changer 16 of the common portion of the receiver and also the I.F. amplifiers 21, 17 of the vision and sound channels respectively. The system is applicable to the transmission of stereoscopic and binaural programmes.
