Abstract
519,171. Vapour-pressure engines; elasticfluid turbines. DOCZEKAL, R. Sept. 13, 1938, No. 26663. [Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (iii)] In a vapour-pressure engine a mixture of vapours generated in a boiler K is utilised as the working fluid, the vapours being obtained from a mixture of two or more liquids (a) which are insoluble or only partially soluble one in the other, or (b) which show a maximum or minimum boiling point at one particular ratio of the components. Examples of (a) water and one or more hydro carbons such as benzole; (b) acetone and chloroform; water and formic acid; phenol and alcohol all show maximum boiling points at particular ratios; and minimum boiling points are shown by alcohol and water; alcohol and benzole, or acetone and methyl alcohol. The mixed vapours from a generator K may be led to a turbine, or as shown to the cylinder M', of a reciprocating engine via a valve 1 Fig. 2, or the vapours may pass through a superheating coil U Fig. 3. Starting with a mixture of water and benzole after the expansion of the mixture in the cylinder M<1> the exhaust is led to a separating tank B<1> which separates out the condensed water, and the mixed vapours pass on to a compressor M<2> which causes condensation of part of the benzole. This benzole is separated by a tank B<2> and the remaining mixed vapours are again submitted to the same cycle and after three or more cycles a new supply of mixed vapours is admitted from the generator, and the contents of the separators B<1>, B<2> may be returned to the generator by pumps P<1>, P<2> via valves 12, 15. The condensed vapours may accumulate and be drawn off as liquids through valves 11, 14. In the modification, Fig. 3, the compressor M<2> is connected direct to the generator via a non-return valve R, and a pump P' returns liquid to the generator from the separator B, which is fluid-cooled. In a further modification the compressed mixture from the cylinder M<1> is led back direct to the generator K via a non-return valve.
