518,861. Universal joints. POLLAK J. E. (Thompson Products. Inc. ). Oct. 19, 1938, No. 26684/39. Divided out of 518,857. [Class 65 (ii)] A universal joint for tie - rods comprises a housing 10 with a segmental spherical bearing surface 12 co-operating with the head 18 of a stud 16, the surface of the head 18 being of non- spherical form generated by the rotation of a regularly curved convex line of greater curvature than the surface 12 about an axis passing through the centre of curvature C of the latter, whereby an area contact is developed between the head 18 and the surface 12. In Fig. 2, R is the radius of the surface 12, R<1> that of the generatrix of the non-spherical surface on 18. Specification 518,857 is referred to.
