Abstract
518,745. Distilling hydrocarbons. JOHNSON, G. W. (I.G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Aug. 31, 1938, No. 25498. [Class 32] [Also in Group IV] Hydrogen chloride is separated from mixtures of it with olefines and diolefines by bringing the mixture into contact with a liquid which is inert to hydrogen chloride and has a boiling point higher than hydrogen chloride but lower than the olefines. Suitable inert liquids are propane, propylene, methyl chloride, vinyl chloride, and dichlorodifluomethane. According to an example, a mixture derived from the thermal splitting of dichlorbutane and consisting of hydrogen chloride and butadiene with some propylene and butylene is introduced at room temperature into the column 2 and liquid propane at -45‹C. is injected at 3. The butadiene is liquefied and collects in the bottom of the apparatus where the temperature is such that it boils slightly. The vaporized propane and the hydrogen chloride are led off at 4, compressed at 7, cooled at 8, and separated in the still 10 from which the propane is recirculated. The butylene is also condensed with the butadiene and the propylene. escapes with the vapour.
