518,163. Hydrocarbons. SINCLAIR REFINING CO. May 17, 1938, No. 14726. Convention date, June 23, 1937. Drawings to Specification. [Class 2 (iii)] In the production of liquid polymers from gases containing olefines by treatment with a solid phosphoric acid catalyst at temperatures not substantially above 550‹F. in the presence of sufficient steam to maintain proper hydration of the catalyst, gas poor in olefines containing three or more carbon atoms such as the exit gas after condensation of the polymers, is added to the initial gas mixture, the quantity of such added poor gas being varied so that the temperature difference between the hottest and coolest layers of the catalyst does not substantially exceed 100‹F. The added poor gas may be that obtained by subjecting the liquid product to treatment in a stabilizing chamber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sept. 91 is not limited to the temperature limit for the polymerization process nor to the range of temperature difference in the catalyst bed.
