[Class 61 (iii)] Stopper devices for closing leaks or holes in pipes, tanks &c. of the kind described in Specification 424,129, [Group XXVIII], comprising a screw-threaded stem 7 with a springy cupped member and flexible washer 11 at one end adapted to be pushed through the leak and a cupped member 12, flexible washer 13 and clamping nut 6 are inserted and tightened. by means of a tool comprising a stem 1 provided at the end with a screw threaded socket 2 adapted to engage and hold the end 10 of the stem 7, a spanner head 5 rotatable and slidable on the shaft 1 and formed with a nut socket 4 to tighten up the nut 6 and a spring 9 normally pressing the spanner forwardly. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 the spanner head is formed of two discs 15, 16 connected to longitudinal rods 17, 18 slidable through holes in an annular plate 19 on the stem 1 and is rotated by means of a plate 21 with handles 22, the forward ends 13a of the rods 17, 18 engaging holes 23 in the nut 14. A water shield is interposed between the handle 24 and head. Fig. 5 shows a handled rod 23a adapted to be passed down the hollow stem 1 and having an end like a screwdriver to engage a nick in the end of the screw 10 to hold it against rotation, the rod 23a being manipulated against the pressure of a spring 26 by means of a head 25 to lock or unlock the screw.
