Abstract

517,584. Self-locking nuts. SIMMONDS, O. E., and SIMMONDS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Ltd. July 30, 1938, No. 22724. [Class 89 (i)] In nuts of the type having recess 3 housing a spirally formed element 4 an inset 5 is provided of elastic material such as rubber or vulcanized fibre. The element 4 is partly embedded in the elastic inset 5. The diameter of the recess 3 is greater than that of the screw threads so that the member 4 can expand in the recess. The member 4 is anchored as shown by bending over one end 6 and housing it in an aperture 8. The internal diameter of the inset 5 may be greater than the inner diameter of the screw thread as shown in Fig. 2, or may be less than the maximum diameter of the bolt threads so that these cut into the inset when screwing takes place. The inset may be provided with screw threads and the end of the nut turned over at 9 to maintain it in position.
