Abstract
516,149. Directive wireless signalling. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and WITT, B. J. June 21, 1938, No. 18480. [Class 40 (v)] The two aerials of a navigational transmitter of the overlapping-beam type are alternately coupled to and decoupled from the transmitter by a rotating condenser having at least two stators, the vanes of which are so shaped and disposed as to produce complementary signals, say the Morse letters E and T in sequence. As shown in Fig. 1, the condenser is inserted in the output feed-line 5, 6 from the amplifying valves 1, 2 of the H.F. generator, and passes power from the feed-line to the transmitting aerials 15, 17 in the sequence stated. The rotors 8,9 are mounted on a common rotating shaft 5, Fig. 2, and engage with the stators 10, 11 for " dot " and " dash " periods respectively. Discs 12 may co-operate with a third set of stator vanes 13 to provide a constant coupling factor between the rotary blades 8, 9 and the feeder 5, 6, the inner conductor of which is then connected to the stator 13 instead of to the condenser shaft. Series inductances 14, 16 counteract undesired capacity effects introduced by the coupling condenser.
