Abstract
514,845. Pumps. KEARNEY, A. R. May 17, 1938, No. 14668. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] To prevent air locks in the fuel supply system of an internal combustion engine, a pump plunger a draws fuel from a chamber m connected to a low pressure supply and delivers it through a passage k to a chamber j surrounding an injector valve d the chamber j being connected to the low pressure supply by return passages h, o which are placed in communication by a recess l in the pump plunger at the end of the delivery stroke. The chamber m contains a filter p and opens into the pump through a non-return valve l. The drop in pressure in the space j enables a spring to close the injection valve d.
