[Class 39 (iii)] A boiling ring consists of an upper casting a. which forms a hot-plate, and a grid d which is secured thereto and has one end flange cut away so as to allow the underframe to move relatively to the top casting and thus prevent distortion due to unequal heating of the two parts. Below the hot-plate are arranged refractory insulating members b, provided with holes c in which are carried porcelain rods whereon are wound the resistance elements. The grid d is provided with cross-bars d<1>, of oval section, carrying projections d<2>, which may be bifurcated, contacting with refractory formers b at spaced intervals.
