Abstract

514,781. Float-operated valves. DONALD, P, G., and ROWNSON, DREW, & CLYDESDALE, Ltd. May 13, 1938, No. 14304. [Class 135] A valve actuating float has a side surface provided with vertically adjustable securing means for the float arm. In the form shown in the Figure the float arm 2 is screwed into a wedge-shaped block 1 slidably mounted in a channelshaped bracket 4 secured to the float by rivets 6. Rubber washers 7 are interposed to make the joint watertight. A nut 8 screwed on the float arm is adapted to clamp the block 1 against the inner surface of the bracket groove and a washer 9 with bent-over edges against the outer surface of the bracket. In a modification the bracket is replaced by an undercut groove formed by the wall of the float. In this form the securing nut is screwed into an external thread in the block. According to the Provisional Specification the block may be formed with the groove and co-operate with ridge on the float. In a further construction a forked boss screwed to the float arm straddles a vertical ridge on the float and is secured in the adjusted position by a clamping bolt taking through a slot in the ridge and into the arms of the fork. Provision may be made for the transverse adjustment of the float comprising an arm angularly adjustable about the block axis.
