Abstract

514,142. Ball joints. FREED, K. B. Dec. 3, 1938, No. 35319. [Class 65 (ii)] A mounting for a pendulum arm 5 comprises a resilient member 12 having the form of a body of revolution, preferably that of a ball, held between rigid members 1 and 2, which are so adjustable relative to each other that the resilient member forms a pad-like enlargement 14 between them. This enlargement forms a supporting bearing edge between the resilient and rigid members and restrict the freedom of movement of the arm 5. In a modification the resilient member 12 comprises a core of rigid material such as wood covered with a layer of rubber material. The cap 3 which prevents the resilient material of the member 12 creeping through the opening 8 of the adjustable ring 2 may be dispensed with if desired. The pendulum arm 5 may be rigidly connected to the member 12 by a bolt 11 as shown, or may be connected to the cap 3 only.
