Abstract

513,841. Commutator switching arrangements. NEEDHAM, W., and ROBINSON, S. April 29, 1938, No. 13039/37. [Class 38 (ii)] Means for converting AC. to D.C. or vice versa comprises a rotary commutator A and a centre-tapped transformer C wherein the D.C. connections are made between the centre-tap on the transformer and a slip ring a<1> associated with the commutator, and condensers a<3> are connected between each of the brushes a<2> associated with the commutator and the slip ring. A pair of such arrangements may be combined as shown and operate as a D.C voltage changer. Alternatively a pair of such arrangements driven at different speeds, one operating to covert A.C. to D.C., and the other operating to convert the D.C. so obtained to A.C. may be used as a frequency changer.
