Abstract

513,359. Electroplating. NACHTMAN, J. S. Dec. 29, 1937, No. 2983/39. Divided out of 503,475. [Class 41] Plated or coated strip metal stock is passed through a bath of hot liquid to alloy the plating or coating, then without exposure to the atmosphere is passed through a second liquid bath for cooling and brightening the coating, the' transfer being effected below the liquid levels. The baths are preferably hot and cold oil baths, and the stock is preferably transferred by driving means engaging the stock only after its entry into the cool oil bath. The plated or coated strip S passes from the hot oil tank N provided with heating elements 81 through the duct 83 to the cold oil tank O, wherein the oil is circulated between the intake 84 and discharge orifices 85 in a nozzle member 86. The strip is engaged by the driven roller 88, and passes to squeegees C<4> and C<5>. Since the cold oil side of the duct 83 is higher than the hot oil side, a static balance exists between the two baths, and transfer of the oil prevented. In a modification, the two oil baths are separate compartments in the same vessel, a heat-insulating partition being provided. Specification 503,475 is referred to.
