Abstract

513,289. Diaphragms. SELL, H. April 6, 1938, No. 10592. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1937. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group V] Diaphragms for sound recording, transmitting or reproducing devices are prepared from a solidified cellulose foam material having an almost microscopically fine cellular constitution throughout and a density not exceeding 0.1 gr. per cubic centimetre or of other cellular material having similar properties in regard to stiffness, cellular constitution and density. Diaphragms illustrated have, in Fig. 1, a rigid centre portion having an aluminium film stuck thereto which projects beyond the edge of the diaphragm, the projecting part being corrugated; in Fig 2 a complete diaphragm made of the porous material the edge portion being machined down; in Fig. 3, 4, a rigid central portion with radial strengthening ribs, a recess being provided in the diaphragm for a former for the coil ; in Figs. 5, 6, a diaphragm formed by cementing together two parts cut with annular grooves so that the completed diaphragm contains annular hollow chambers.
