512,596. Sliding-clasp fasteners. CLARK, D'A. M. (Prentice Manufacturing Co., G. E.). Nov. 14, 1938, No. 33060. [Class 44] Sliding-clasp fasteners of the type having the fastener elements provided by a helical coil of wire are made by concomitantly feeding a continuous wire coil and a tape having a laddered portion which tape is supported at the borders of the laddered portion while the convolutions of the coil are pressed therethrough, the selvedge of the tape thereafter being turned over and sewn to the main portion of the tape. A disc 30 having a peripheral groove conforming to the wire coil C feeds the coil and presses the turns into a deep groove 26 in a second disc 24 the toothed rims 27, 28 of which support the borders of the laddered portions of the tape T, the outer border being gripped by a plate 31 on the first disc engaging the side face of the second disc 24. After leaving the discs the selvedge of the tape is turned over by a scroll piece 18 and passes beneath the presser foot 7 of a sewing needle 6.
