Abstract

510,362. Seat-frames. SLEIGH, H. L., CHESTON. A. S., and BOOTH, J. H. Feb. 4, 1938, No. 3570. [Class 52 (ii)] Vehicle seats of the kind comprising a seat foundation extending between a front and a rear transverse bar and a pair of U-shaped channelsection feet extending between said bars are characterized in that the back frame is connected by brackets 16 to longitudinal members 22 below the seat foundation but above the base portions of the U-shaped feet. The brackets comprise three arms 17, 19, 20 connected respectively to the arms of the back frame the longitudinal members 22, and the transverse member 15. The lower edge of the bracket is upturned at 21. The members 22 are connected to the member 15 by reinforcements 24 and extend transversely across the feet and are recessed and connected thereto at 25. The seat foundation, comprising helical springs including relatively strong side springs 28 and a floating member 27, is connected to the back member 15 and a front transverse member 9 carried by the ends of the feet. Reinforcing strips 13, Fig. 3, are applied inside the upwardly extending feet members the upper ends of which are bent inwardly beneath the ends of the member 9. All the connections may be spotwelded or riveted. The feet are secured adjustably on runners 6 by a fastening and handle 4.
