Abstract

509,793. Change-speed driving-mechanism for cycles. CAMILLIS, L. Feb. 16, 1938, No. 4759. [Class 136 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] The invention relates to change-speed driving - mechanism for cycles &c. of the type in which, on operation of twin Bowden &c. cables, the chain is selectively engaged with sprockets of different sizes on the rear wheel hub by shifting mechanism comprising an attachment bracket 10 supporting a peg &c. 14 on which is mounted a cable-operated rotatable sleeve 18 adapted also to be traversed along the peg 14, as by means of a radial pin 16 and a helical slot 17, the sleeve 18 carrying a jockey or shifting sprocket 30 and also a spring-urged swinging chain-tensioning arm 28 provided with a tension sprocket &c. 29. According to the invention, the tension arm 28 is controlled by a torsion spring 22 externally mounted about the sleeve 18, one arm 23 of the spring being displaceably connected to the bracket 10, as by an eye &c. 24 slidably engaging a pin 25, to allow of traverse of the spring, while the other spring arm 26 is connected to the tension arm 28, as by a hook 27. The spring 22 is located in an annular groove formed by a bearing collar 20, spacing ring 21 and a pulley 19 to which, the actuating-cables 13 are attached.
