Abstract

509,696. Polyvinyl acetal resin compositions. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH- (Fiberloid Corporation). Nov. 17, 1937, No. 31637. [Class 2 (iii)] Interleaf material for safety glass comprises polyvinyl acetal resin and a mixture of plasticizers in such proportion that the mixture is compatible with the resin and substantially equal hot and cold break tests are obtained, one or both of the plasticizers being incompatible if used alone in the proportion of the total plasticizer mixture. Further, one of the plastizicers may be incompatible if used alone in the proportion used in the mixture ; and the mixture may be used in a proportion which is nearly incompatible. Thus, a polyvinyl butyraldehyde acetal resin containing less than 25 per cent. hydroxyl may be mixed with amyl or butyl laurate and a phthalate of a monohydric alcohol containing less than 8 carbon atoms. Detailed examples show the use of mixtures of dibutyl phthate or diethyleneglycol dibutyrate and phenyl-ethyl alcohol, diethyleneglycol dipropionate and butylcarbitol butyrate, dilauryl phthalate and diethyleneglycol or dibutyl diglycollate, amyl or butyl laurate and dibutyl phthalate or phenyl-ethyl alcohol.
