Abstract
509,612. Looms with stationary weft supplies. DEWAS, R. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1827. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1937. [Class 142 (ii)] Comprises detail improvements in the head and associated cutting and thread clamping devices of conveying needles of the kind described in Specifications 442,206 and 456,216 for inserting weft from fixed bobbins. The hollow tubular head has a large base 1 adjacent the reed furnished with a thickened part having a thread-receiving slot 3 and a beak 1a, and a small base 1d having a thread slot 5. The bases are connected by sides 1b, 1c splayed at 1e, an offset projecting mass of material 6 secured to the base 1c having a curved outer edge merging into the edge 1e and a thread slot 7 registering with the slot 5. The cutting blade 9 secured by screws or by extending into a housing. in a curved slot 8 has a part 9a extending into the slot 7, whilst the threadclamping blade 13 is secured by screws 14 in a cut-away part 11 continuing into a groove 12. The front of the blade, which may have ribs 17, is held in contact with a wall 7c of the slot 7. The blade, which may be perforated, may be acted upon by a spring blade 15. In a modification, a small clamping blade 13, Fig. 13, carried by a spring 15 is used. To facilitate the entry of a cleaning blade through the thread clamp of the pulling needle, the rear ends of the blades 13, 15 may be mounted on a projection forming a housing. In another modification, the slot 5 has the same height as the groove 12 and the end of the blade 13 may at the front emerge slightly from the groove 12. Two clamping and two spring blades may be used. The cutting device may comprise two blades placed one against the other with their bevels opposed. When weaving cloths with weft change, the opening 3 is replaced by a slot.
