Abstract

509,393. Drilling-machines. ASQUITH, Ltd., W., and JOHNSON, A. Jan. 11, 1938, No. 17226/39. Divided out of 509,254. [Class 83 (iii)] In an arm lock for a radial drilling-machine, a pad is pivoted to a lever which is rocked by the locking-shaft extending along the front of the arm and actuated by a hand lever 'on the drill slide, so as to lock the arm against a machined surface on the column or a ring slidable on the column and not against the rollers which form the bearing of the arm on the column. The arm socket A<1> rotatable on the column B has pivoted thereto at e<1> a lever E carrying at one end a pivoted stud d provided with a pad D for engaging a machined surface on the column and carrying at the other end a pivoted block G provided with a roller g<1> engaging a face-cam H attached to a sleeve h<1> splined to the locking-shaft J extending along the front of the radial arm and operated by a hand lever on the drill-head. An adjustable fixed pad diametrically opposite the pad D on the socket A' is positioned just clear of the column so as to be clamped against a machined surface thereon when the hand lever is actuated, without engaging the roller bearing between the socket and column. The block G is adjustable relatively to the lever E by a screw g<2> and a spring maintains the roller g<1> in.contact with the cam H. A recess h<2> in the cam H co-operates with a switch K to prevent actuation of the arm-elevating motor when the socket is clamped. Specification 137,118, [Class 83 (iii)], is referred to.
