509,392. Kinematograph projectors. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and BAIRD, J. L. Dec. 10, 1937, No. 10071/39. Divided out of 507,165. [Class 97 (i)] In a continuous-feed projector comprising a two-image gate, a main lens system, and twc moving compensating lens systems used alternatively, a mask is provided between the light source and the film, to prevent overheating of the film, by restricting the illumina tion to one image only except during change-over of the compensating lenses. As shown, the mask comprises a transparent disc coated with an opaque substance and rotated so as to make one revolution while the film is fed an image height. A spiral slot 11 with overlapping ends is formed in the coating; the light passed is thereby restricted to one image, and moves with it, except during the change-over periods. The disc may be made of infra-red absorbing glass or gelatine, and may be placed close to the gate, or at an image thereof if such exists between the light source and the film.
