[Class 28 (i)] A steaming-apparatus for cooking food comprises a number of compartments a arranged over a gas or like heated boiler b which feeds them with steam through a pipe c, each compartment being provided with a spring-pressed valve e<4>, Fig. 5, actuated by its door d so that the steam supply is shut off when the door is opened, but flows as soon as the door is shut. A temperature-controlled valve f for each compartment permits the escape of cold air when the steam is turned on and a valve j controlled by the pressure of the steam in the boiler adjusts the supply of gas to the burner. A safety valve g is fitted at the end of the pipe c and a relief pipe h extends upwards from near the bottom of the boiler ; drips and water escaping from this pipe fall into a tray T. Steam condensing in the compartments flows through a pipe i<1> to a drainage pipe i<4>. A ball valve controls the height of water in the boiler.
