509,038. Vehicle collision-gnards. JELALIAN, M. Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27299. Void. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1936. [Class 103 (ii)] A collision-guard for motor vehicles comprises a pair of metallic sections 14 faced with resilient material 20, hinged together at the centre, and pivotally mounted at 11 on plungers 10 resiliently mounted on Y-shaped supports 5, whereby the sections can yield both laterally and longitudinally when struck. Additional springs 23 may bear on the rear of the outer ends of the bars 14. The space beneath the bars 14 is protected by a wire screen 21 preferably formed of two sections hinged together at 39, the lower section being held in a raised position by hooks 40 releasable on the occurrence of an impact. A flexible wire net 28 extending rearwardly from the bars 14 and adapted to be rolled up on a roller 29 serves to catch pedestrians struck by the centre portion of the guard. In a modification, the guard consists of a.single section.
